The Effect and Comparison of Two Educational Methods of Emotional Intelligence and Educational Motivation on Education and Academic Performance of Students at Farhangian University in Khuzestan Province

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect and comparison of emotional intelligence education and academic motivation on academic commitment and performance of students. This experimental study was carried out with two experimental and one control group and a pre-test and post-test design. The statistical population of this research includes all male students of Farhangian University of Khuzestan province. The sample consisted of 98 subjects (31 in the first experimental group, 32 in the second experimental group and 35 in the control group). In the first stage, two groups of experimental and control group were tested. After the intervention, information was assessed by academic commitment, emotional self-regulation and academic performance (also through the students' final grade gauge). The research data were analyzed by multivariate statistical analysis test. The results of multivariate statistical analysis and covariance showed that emotional intelligence training and educational motivation education had a significant effect on three subscales of academic commitment (behavioral commitment, emotional commitment and cognitive commitment) and general score of academic commitment. Emotional intelligence training and educational motivation education have also had a significant effect on and academic performance. It can be concluded that the training of emotional intelligence and education of educational motivation can increase student commitment, and increase academic performance of students.
