Examining Behavioral Indicators Effective in Reducing Aggression in Adolescents Through Mental Health Education

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to identify behavioral indicators effective in reducing aggression in adolescents through mental health education.

Methods and Materials: This qualitative study utilized semi-structured interviews. Twenty-five adolescents from Tehran were purposively selected. Data were collected through individual interviews and analyzed using Nvivo software. Theoretical saturation was used as the criterion for halting data collection.

Findings: The results showed that appropriate and engaging content, easy access to educational resources, continuous follow-up of training programs, and social support were key factors in reducing aggression in adolescents. Adolescents who received support from their families, peers, and teachers exhibited less aggressive behavior. Moreover, educational content related to adolescents’ real-life issues and access to online resources significantly contributed to reducing aggression.

Conclusion: Mental health education can play a crucial role in reducing aggression in adolescents. Educational programs should be designed to align with the specific needs and challenges of adolescents, and they should include continuous follow-up and support programs.
