Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of patients with autoimmune diseases regarding psychological care and identify challenges, needs, and impacts.

Methods and Materials: This qualitative study utilized a phenomenological approach for data collection and analysis. A total of 24 patients with autoimmune diseases from Tehran were selected through purposive sampling, and data were collected via semi-structured interviews. Data analysis was conducted using NVivo software and theoretical saturation.

Findings: Four main themes emerged from patients' experiences: 1) Positive experiences with psychological care, including improved quality of life and feeling supported; 2) Challenges and barriers in accessing services, such as financial and time-related issues; 3) Negative and unpleasant experiences, including treatment-related disappointment and physical issues caused by therapy; and 4) Needs and demands, such as requests for more comprehensive treatments and greater social support.

Conclusion: Psychological care has positive effects on improving the quality of life and reducing anxiety in patients with autoimmune diseases. However, challenges such as high costs, limited access, and physical side effects of treatment should be addressed. It is recommended that psychological services be provided in a more flexible and comprehensive manner.
