Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze individuals' experiences of coping strategies in managing economic anxiety.

Methods and Materials: This study was qualitative in nature and employed a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 29 residents of Tehran. Participants were selected from various age, gender, and socio-economic groups. Data analysis was conducted using NVivo software, and theoretical saturation was applied to ensure comprehensive understanding.

Findings: The results showed that individuals used three main categories of coping strategies to manage economic anxiety: emotional, cognitive, and social coping strategies. Emotional coping strategies included denial, self-soothing, and avoidance of anxiety-inducing issues, while cognitive strategies involved cognitive restructuring and problem-solving. Social support from family and friends played a crucial role in alleviating economic anxiety.

Conclusion: The findings indicate that individuals employ a combination of emotional, cognitive, and social coping strategies to manage economic anxiety. Additionally, social support, particularly during economic crises, plays a significant role in mitigating anxiety. These findings can inform the development of supportive programs and counseling approaches for managing economic anxiety.
